Maui’d Forever is now offering beach area weddings with the ability to offer a last minute permit. The advantage to this new offering is that one can pick their wedding or vow renewal location after their arrival on the Island.
The State of Hawaiis, Department of Land and Natural Resources started requiring permits for beach weddings starting in 2008. At first this outraged many in the Hawaii wedding industry especially the wedding planners and coordinators who were used to just going to the beach and doing a ceremony.
The regulations also restrict the activities of what can transpire at one of these beach weddings. Prior to 2008 beach weddings were unrestricted and often had flower arches and chairs set up on the sand. This is no longer allowed. Many florists and equipment rental companies were left with inventory that cannot be used.
These regulations are only for beaches and up to the mean high tide line. So to bypass the regulations and accompanying fees many Hawaii wedding planners have chosen to do their beach weddings at beach parks or just on the other side of the mean high tide line.
Most destination wedding couples traveling to Hawaii dream of having their wedding on a beach so a permit is a must. Since the public became aware of this issue it put a little bit more stress on them since it is very difficult for individuals to obtain permits. it is not only difficult but costly and time consuming because one must obtain liability insurance to be able to purchase a permit. Wedding planners such as Maui’d Forever offer permits with all of their wedding packages to help alleviate that stress.
Those same couples often fret that the beach selection they make for their wedding is just not the correct choice for them. Maui’d Forever is offering the ability for the couple to get a last minute permit enabling them to arrive on the Island and search for themselves what beach they prefer.
The only caveat to getting the last minute permit is that it must be within a certain geographical range. The wedding vendors such as minister and photographer are scheduled at the time of booking and are told time and location. Since many of them do multiple weddings in a day they need to know where and when the ceremony will take place.
The policy Maui’d Forever has adopted is to allow the couple a 30 minute driving window between a chosen location. That way the vendors know at most they can plan for half hour drive in any one direction. The couple is advised on a suggested location and once on Island given directions to the alternatives. They are then instructed to call Maui’d Forever to get the permit for their choice and the vendors are then emailed a copy of the permit. This will help alleviate some of the stress of a destination wedding.
